#1 - Prevalence of enzootic bovine leukosis virus in dahy cattle in Parana
Abstract in English:
A representative sample of blood from dairy cattle in the Sta te of Parana was tested for the presence of antibodies against the virus of enzootic bovine leukosis (EBL) and it was found that the general prevalence of the virus was 20.7%, in 40.8% of the surveyed farms. The higher prevalences of the virus were found in the areas of the State where the economic significance of dairy production is greater and this prevalence was also higher in the older animals and in those of the Holstein breeds.

Uma amostragem representativa de sangue do rebanho bovino produtor de leite do Estado do Paraná foi submetida à prova específica para verificação de anticorpos contra o vírus da leucose enzoótica bovina (LEB), tendo sido encontrado um índice geral de prevalência de 20,7% em 40,8% das propriedades pesquisadas. As maiores prevalências do vírus foram encontradas nas áreas do Estado onde a importância econômica da bovinocultura de leite é maior e esta prevalência foi maior nos animais mais velhos e naqueles das raças Holandesas.
#2 - Enzootic bovine leukosis virus infection in cows imported from Uruguay

Sixty cows out of a total of 482 animals imported from Uruguay by Dairy Cooperative of Curitiba (CLAC) were sampled in order to verify the presence of antibodies against enzootic bovine leukosis (EBL) virus in their blood. All cows were about 30 months old and many of them were calving for the first time. Eleven (18.3%) cows had antibodies against EBL virus in their plasma which were detected using the immunodiffusion test.

Sessenta vacas de um total de 482 animais importados do Uruguai pela Cooperativa de Laticínios de Curitiba (CLAC) foram amostrados com a finalidade de se verificar a presença de anticorpos no sangue contra o vírus da leucose enzoótica bovina (LEB). Todas as vacas tinham aproximadamente 30 meses de idade e muitas delas se apresentavam parindo pela primeira vez. Onze (18,3%) vacas apresentaram anticorpos contra o vírus da LEB quando testados pela prova de imunodifusão.
